Austin, TX. ? November 8, 2005 ?TippingPoint, a division of 3Com and the leader in intrusion prevention, today announced that its TippingPoint? Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) protects customers against all advisories announced by Microsoft today.
TippingPoint devices were inoculated against these threats today through the Digital Vaccine service, a remote update service that provides regular, preemptive protection against the latest threats. Vulnerabilities can be exploited to compromise business networks and gain access for malicious purposes. The TippingPoint IPS provides vulnerability protection in the form of Virtual Software Patches to preemptively protect customers against exploits and worms.
"Today's Microsoft Bulletin, includes vulnerabilities in the Windows Metafile (WMF) and Enhanced Metafile (EMF) image formats. End users could be compromised by merely viewing malicious Web links and email attachments. Viruses, Spyware and Trojans could leverage these vulnerabilities," said Dinesh Sequeira, manager of the Digital Vaccine security research team. "The TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention System expedites early protection for vulnerabilities prior to the emergence of an exploit."
The TippingPoint IPS provides protection for the following security bulletin announced by Microsoft earlier today:
MS05-053 Vulnerabilities in Graphics Rendering Engine Could Allow Code Execution
(Rating: Critical)
The TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention System provides Application Protection, Performance Protection and Infrastructure Protection at gigabit speeds through total packet inspection. Application Protection capabilities provide fast, accurate, reliable protection from internal and external cyber attacks. Through its Infrastructure Protection capabilities, the TippingPoint IPS protects VoIP infrastructure, routers, switches, DNS and other critical infrastructure from targeted attacks and traffic anomalies. The TippingPoint Performance Protection capabilities enable customers to throttle non-mission critical applications that hijack valuable bandwidth and IT resources, thereby aligning network resources and business-critical application performance.
