What is the expected life of the NBX system, not in the text book sense, but in the real World?

Good Products last a long time. Poorly designed and assembled products do not. 3Com NBX has a long life in the field. The traditional Business telephone system, was designed for a field life of at least 5 years, and beat that, just about every time. Newer VoIP systems are computer based, and therefore come from the computer DNA idea, that the equipment ought to be "upgraded" (read that replaced ), every couple years. HOWEVER, 3Com NBX differs from this philosophy. The system was designed at one of the most influential Technology Universities in the World. It was designed from day one, to be flexible, reconfigurable, and reusable. All the components, the cards, the cases, the switches and the phones, are all built to be remanufactured and to be redeployable. The system has already been in the market for nearly 10 years, if you take into consideration the distribution of equipment from the original NBX Corporation. We see phones and cards every day, that are 5, 6, 7, and more years old, and are either fully functional, or repairable for a nominal charge. Expect, a minimum of 5 years use, and do not be at all surprised when you get 10. In our own, non scientific pole of users, we found that over 80% of users still liked the use and features of the system, even after it had been installed over 5 years! This is due primarily to the durability of the system, and its components. The software upgrades come out every two years or so, and allow more and more functionality. Even the discontinued products that are more than 7 years old, continue to work in the marketplace, by nearly every every report we receive. Barring acts of God, spilled coffee, or customer abuse, the systems are generally stable and remain functional.
